so your skin is looking and feeling a little dull? you'd like to refresh it and get it looking vibrant, right? let's talk about what causes your skin to look dull, rough, and worn out.
simply put, exfoliation is the process of removing dead skin cells from the outer layer of your skin. as the years pass by, natural cell turnover in your skin begins to slow down (where we shed dead skin cells and produce new ones), causing old skin cells to build up on the surface. this leads to dull, rough, hyperpigmentation (those damn dark spots), and dry skin – or worse – irritation and clogged pores that can cause acne. we’re not here for that, so that’s why exfoliate. it’s our go-to for removing those dead skin cells to reveal a radiant glow. not to mention, getting the gunk out of your pores allows serums and moisturizers to absorb better. and that’s how the magic happens.
soften wrinkles
resurface skin texture
reduce discoloration
unclog pores
enhance moisture absorption
chemical - exfoliation uses chemicals, such as alpha and beta hydroxy acids. the word “acid” might sound a bit intense, and kinda makes you stop and wonder: is this 'acid stuff' going to burn off my skin? – but it's mostly using fruit acids. this is called 'chemical acid exfoliation', essentially unglues the bonds that bind skin cells together, allowing the dead cells to slough away (all the work, none of the hassle). plus, it's more gentler on your skin than physical scrubs are.
mechanical - exfoliation uses a tool, such as a brush sponge, or a scrub that is known as an "exfoliating scrub" to physically remove dead skin cells. this can be a bit aggressive and cause irritation if not done properly. we like to go with a physical scrub maybe once or twice a month. It also doesn’t penetrate as deeply as the chemical version and therefore may not be as effective.
at kollekt, we use a chemical exfoliating serum that has three major beneficial acids, including:
lactic acid
glycolic acid
mandelic acid
each one has its benefits and can tackle different skin concerns like acne, dark spots, sensitivity, and so on.
chemical exfoliators help to speed up your skin's natural process of shedding those deadbeat skin cells that no longer have a purpose, and reveal fresh and healthy skin. regular weekly use of an exfoliating serum like the exfoliator can help to smooth things out (your skin that is), and brighten your skin's complexion – your skin feels smoother and looks more even in tone, pores are unclogged, and signs of aging may be less apparent.
introducing the exfoliator into your skincare regimen is a great way to refine your skin’s texture, smooth over wrinkles or aging signs, fix fading and discoloration, and unclog blocked pores.
the exfoliator is also known to:
soften wrinkles
resurface skin texture
reduce discoloration
unclog pores
enhance moisture absorption
when paired with the other products in our kollektion, you can achieve a brighter and clearer appearance thanks to our stellar ingredients, selected with care and intent. no frills, no-nonsense.
aside from the powerful properties of the three primary acids we mentioned above, we’ve also included a dose of soothing and anti-inflammatory antioxidants to help rejuvenate your skin:
chamomile flower extract - heals irritated skin and regenerates new skin cells
lemon fruit extract - contains vitamin C and antioxidants with moisturizing and antibacterial characteristics
licorice root extract - naturally brightens complexion, soothes inflammation, reduces hyperpigmentation, and contains high levels of antioxidants
sugar cane extract - helps bind moisture to your skin
green tea extract - acts as another antioxidant with antimicrobial, anticarcinogenic, and anti-inflammatory properties
olive leaf extract - slows signs of aging, reduces redness and irritation, and hydrates skin
rosemary leaf extract - an antioxidant that protects skin and prevents premature aging
it’s also important to note, that exfoliating can make certain skin types more sensitive to sun exposure. always remember to grab the proper skin protection before you hit the beach, slopes, or anywhere else you might find yourself exposed to the harmful effects of harsh UV rays.
nothing beats that morning splash to the face, then seeing your reflection and thinking, "damn, my skin looks smooth and fresh AF!"
the secret? apply the exfoliator on clean skin before you hit the sheets – simply apply the serum to clean, dry skin on your face, neck, chest, and hands. avoid your eyes, and let the serum absorb without rinsing. follow up with the nourisher for added nutrients, and then seal all the goodness in with an antioxidant-rich night cream like the overnighter.
let it work its magic overnight and wake up to smoother, renewed, and refreshed skin.
while you're catching those zzz's, it’s working hard to resurface dull, congested skin, sweeping away the bad vibes and dramatically refining your skin's tone and texture.
give your skin the wake-up call it needs with the exfoliator. #KollektYourself.
